skate. 3 Field notebook

First week

Launch week

Launch week is the first public stretch of the browser client, from a session list on 4 October 2026 to the rebuilt menu on 8 October. The play address went public on 7 October. Spot Battle was named on 8 October and is not in the CrossBar.

The counts are traffic from that stretch, not a frame-rate target. The client is still build 9798389b2cfa.

Four dates

The order matters because the words changed in the middle. On 4 October the tab was Freeskate. On 9 October the tab is Skate. Both are the free-skate tab.

Hosting was already a named path on 4 October.
  1. 4 October 2026.

    A session list.

A hosted list with ping was already on screen at 9:17 PM. The play address for it went public on 7 October.

  2. 7 October 2026.

    Public link.

The play address went out as a public link. Friends open the same site, with hardware acceleration on, and meet under ONLINE.

  3. 7–8 October 2026.

    First chart.

That window saw 130.79 thousand uniques, 18.54 million requests, and 34 TB served.

  4. 8 October 2026.

    Menu pass.

The CrossBar was shown for 229 seconds, and Spot Battle was named. Spot Battle is not a selectable row.

  5. 8–9 October 2026.

    Second chart.

The next window saw 217.79 thousand uniques, 132.43 million requests, 84.6 percent cached, 102 TB served, and 87 TB cached.

  6. 9 October 2026.

    Strings caught up.

The tab is Skate and the map row is Choose World. On 8 October those labels were Freeskate and World.

What the two charts count

From 7 October into 8 October the client saw 130.79 thousand unique visitors, 18.54 million requests, and 34 TB served, with 0.54 percent cached, 185 GB. From 8 October into 9 October it saw 217.79 thousand uniques, 132.43 million requests, and 102 TB served, of which 87 TB was cached, 84.6 percent.

Requests climbed much faster than uniques. That fits a client pulling map files. The traffic is not a frame rate. A locked 360 is one player’s report from those days, not a rate the client promises. On Asher’s machine the menu sat near 144, a session near 122, and the Coach Frank screen near 36. Those three rates are one machine.

Cached terabytes are bytes the edge did not have to fetch again. On the second day, 87 of the 102 TB were cached. That split is not your converted city stored for you. You still bring the files. The host still does not keep the game content.

What you could do on each day

On 4 October a hosted list was already up at 9:17 PM. The rows were the older Freeskate tab, with ping beside them. On 7 October the play address became public. From then on, a friend could open the site, turn hardware acceleration on, and meet under ONLINE.

On 7 October the server was pinned at the top of its port speed. One reading was about 1114 Mb/s down, with 5.35 of 7.76 GB of memory in use. Another was about 1161 Mb/s down. Multiplayer was already holding that day. If WebGPU failed, hardware acceleration was off. Safari needs Chrome, Brave, or Helium. Asher tests in Brave. Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera can open the device, and Firefox can once hardware acceleration is on.

On 8 October Asher showed the rebuilt menu for 229 seconds and said modes such as Spot Battle were being added. Audio was partly in that week, and the menu was moving onto the game’s own UI. The menu gained no fifteenth row. FREESKATE, ONLINE, LEARN, and OPTIONS still have no entry under that name. Two packs sit beside the game data, skate3-audio.zip and skate3-ui.zip. The client still boots if either pack is missing. The 4 October list carried adp at 0 ms and Player at 167 ms, and that session sat near 122 frames.

By 9 October, build 9798389b2cfa uses Skate for the tab and Choose World for the map row. On 8 October those were Freeskate and World. Difficulty, Skate With Friends, Game Server, Join the Discord, Controls, About This Project, Fullscreen, Lite Mode, Reset First-Run Setup, Saved Downloads, and Delete Local Settings kept the jobs they already had. The rename is the tab and the map row. It is not a new city. The subtitle stayed Rust Engine and Fan Game across those dates, and the script stamp stayed 9798389b2cfa.

Spot Battle stays off the menu

Spot Battle has a date, 8 October, and no CrossBar entry. Do not look for it under FREESKATE, ONLINE, LEARN, or OPTIONS. The fourteen names are the complete menu.

Join with Host a Session, Find a Session, or Join with a Code, and match the world. Everyone opens the same address with hardware acceleration on. If the connection drops, host or join again.

Watch the menu, not a mode trailer

The 8 October recording is the rebuilt CrossBar, 229 seconds of that menu. It does not show how to start Spot Battle. A 29 September mashup is a different project and is not this client.

Still a fan client

Traffic did not change who made the build. Electronic Arts and Black Box did not ship this browser client. The eleventh loading tip and About This Project both call it a fan game. Questions about a bug go to root@aaddpp.lol.
